in this case I would use "substitution".
from the 1st: ----> x = 6-3y
sub that into the 2nd

4x - 5y = 7
4(6-3y) - 5y = 7
24 - 12y - 5y = 7
-17y = -17
y = 1
put that back into x = 6-3y
x = 6 -3(1) = 3
