Explain how you can break apart 3x9 to help you multiply.

You can break up 9 to 3 x 3.
Then you have 3 x 3 x 3= 27
I don't know how much easier that makes it, but I guess you could do it that way. The smaller the numbers you're working with, the smaller the chance you'll mess up.
