In the ground state of element 115, how many electrons have ml=1 as one of their quantum numbers?
Can anyone provide an explanation? I am kind of stuck... and I don't think it is too hard, I just don't know where to start. Thanks ahead of time...
Go to www.webelement.com and click on pro edition, then click on element #115. Scroll down the left side of the screen and click on electron configuration. There will be a series of boxes with vertical marks (the vertical marks indicate electrons). The s electrons (the single boxes with two marks) don't have ml electrons but the p, d, f, etc do.The p boxes (those with three boxes), d(5 boxes) f(7 boxes) etc have ml. For example, p boxes have ml of -1, 0, and +1. The d boxes have -2, -1, 0, +1, and +2. The f boxes have -3, -2, -1, 0, +1, +2, and +3. All you need to do is to count the vertical lines in the +1 box.
