Unhelpful responses I've experienced:

Being placed on hold and told to push phone keys when I need to talk with a real person.

Asking the school board for five days off to take an exotic trip and having the motion not seconded -- and therefore no decision.

Helpful responses I've experienced:

Calling Mayo Clinic and having the phone answered by a real person and then being put through to the real person with whom I wanted to speak.

Have a supervisor praise my work and offer concrete suggestions for improvement.
