What terms is missing from this set of ordered pairs?

(0, -2)(?, 0)(5,8)

2 answers

Find the line through (0, -2) and (5, 8), and find the point on that line where y=0 to find the missing (?, 0).
(0 , 2), (x , 0), (5 , 8).

m = (8 - 2) / (5 - 0) = 6/5.

m = (0 - 2) / (x - 0) = 6/5,
-2 / x = 6/5,
Cross multiply:
6x = -10,
x = -10/6 = -5/3.
