use v=u+at to find final velocity
v=final velocity
u=initial velocity = 0 m s^-1
a=acceleration due to gravity=9.8 m s^-2
t=time taken = 3 s
use s=ut + 0.5at^2 to find height
where s= distance travelled
v=final velocity
