Inverse operations are like "opposites", what undoes the operation. Multiplication and division are inverses, as are addition and subtraction. For example, if you have 4x+2=10, you have to use the inverse of addition (subtraction) to get rid of the 2.
4x+2=10
Subtract 2 from both sides.
4x=8
Divide (inverse of multiplication, the 4 is attached to the x by multiplication) both sides by 4
x=2
4x+2=10
Subtract 2 from both sides.
4x=8
Divide (inverse of multiplication, the 4 is attached to the x by multiplication) both sides by 4
x=2
