Hoc can the factoring of 9x to the second power plus 18x plus 8, help factor 9a to the second power plus 18a plus 8b to the second power.

9x^2 + 18x + 8
= (3x+4)(3x+2)

in 9a^2 + 18ab + 8b^2 , (notice I corrected your middle term...)
= (3a+4b)(3a+2b)

the variable itself does not matter, the coefficients are the important things.
