what are some good ways to study vocab. words?

Write them neatly on 3 x 5 notecards. On the back write the definition. As you write, say the word and the definition out loud. Not only will you remember them better after you have written them, but you'll be able to use the cards as flashcards.

The more senses we use while learning something, the better we remember it. In making notecards, you're using your senses of seeing, hearing, feeling (as you write) and using your mouth (saying).
