Determine the range of a snowball thrown with an initial speed of 6 meters/sec at an angel of elevation of 45 degrees. (Assume g = 9.8 meters/sec)
I'm not really sure what I'm supposed to find here, am I supposed to find the horizontal distance or the vertical distance traveled?

That would be the maximum horizontal distance when range is interpreted in plain English although the same word has a mathematical meaning which I do not believe applies here.
