As the Student Coordinator for the Ron Brown Redesign Team’s professional learning initiative, I designed and administered surveys about students’ mental health and perceptions of safety, analyzed the results, and presented the findings to school community members. In this leadership role I organized the outreach and reporting efforts to ensure student voices were heard. This work is important to me and my community because it demonstrates that adults care about youth opinions and helps address the too-often overlooked issue of youth mental health and safety.
