The Harlem Globetrotters is the name of a group of athletes who use their incredible basketball skills to dazzle and entertain audiences worldwide. The organization was founded in 1926 in Chicago, Illinois, where all the original team members had been raised. At that time, there were no professional basketball teams. The Harlem Globetrotters performed their tricks at ballrooms and other venues around the state of Illinois. Their show also included a lot of humor.

Most members of the Harlem Globetrotters have been African American men. Several of them also went on to play in the National Basketball Association, or NBA, which began in 1949. Among them were Wilt Chamberlain and Willie Gardner. In 1985, the Globetrotters signed a woman, Lynette Woodard, to the roster for the first time. She had won a gold medal at the 1984 Olympics. The first Hispanic to join the team was Orlando Antigua in 1995.

The Harlem Globetrotters continue to amaze people from around the globe. They have performed in over 120 countries and territories. They participate in over 450 live events every year. Members of the organization also take the time to visit schools, hospitals, and veteran organizations. They enjoy using their talents to spread joy to others.
