I don't have the picture, but if the diagram is the common intersecting-chords setup (two chords intersect inside a circle with segments p and x on one chord and y and z on the other), then the intersecting-chords theorem gives

p · x = y · z.

So x = (y·z)/p = (24·5)/10 = 120/10 = 12.
