Levi hoisted seven-month-old Jared to his shoulder and hopped and swayed as he'd seen others do with hopelessly fussy babies. Levi stood looking through the glass at the calm, supportive, nurturing parents. He brought Jared to his cheek and felt the baby's heartbeat through his fleece onesie, waiting with his eyes closed until their hearts began to beat as one.
