Write a professional but appalled letter to my mom physician office my mom see you office on 2/5. Had blood drawn and results came back 3/7. Called your office on 3/10 to remind nurse and/or her doctor that her results are in and we’re forwarded to them on 3/7. Why no one called back to notify my mom of her results as she is still experiencing low glucose results on the evening and while she sleeps in the late 60’s as we mentioned at her appointment on 3/5.

Re: Urgent — Failure to Notify Patient of Lab Results (Patient: [Mom’s Full Name], DOB: [MM/DD/YYYY])
To whom it may concern,
I am writing on behalf of my mother, [Mom’s Full Name], who was seen in your office on [2/5 or 3/5 — please use the date on file]. Blood was drawn at that visit and, according to our records, the laboratory forwarded the results to your office on 3/7. On 3/10 I called to remind the nurse and/or her physician that those results were in and had been forwarded. To date we have received no phone call, message, or written notification of the results.
This lack of timely communication is unacceptable and deeply concerning. At her appointment we specifically discussed that she is continuing to experience low glucose readings — notably late-evening and overnight readings in the upper 60s — which places her at risk for symptomatic or dangerous hypoglycemia while sleeping. Prompt review and clear guidance from the treating clinician were essential, and your office’s failure to respond has left my mother without the medical direction we explicitly requested and urgently need.
I request the following immediately:
- A telephone call to my mother at [Mom’s phone number] today to communicate the lab results and any clinical interpretation.
- A copy of the lab results and any clinician notes sent to me at [your email or mailing address] and placed in her chart.
- A clear plan of care addressing her low nocturnal glucose readings, including whether medication changes, additional testing, or specific home-management instructions are being recommended.
- An explanation of why the results were not communicated in a timely manner and what steps your office will take to ensure this lapse does not recur.
For patient safety reasons, please treat this as urgent and respond within 48 hours. If I do not receive a response within that timeframe, I will escalate my concerns to clinic administration and consider filing a complaint with [state medical board/patient advocacy — optional] as appropriate.
We appreciate the care your team provides, but the delays and lack of communication in this instance jeopardize my mother’s health. I expect your prompt attention and a direct phone call today.
Sincerely,
