I live in Brazil and I feel proud and a little worried at the same time. I love the music, the big family meals, the beaches, and watching football with my friends. Sometimes I get scared when I hear about crime or when my teacher talks about people who don't have enough money. I like festivals like Carnaval because everyone dances and eats yummy food.
In school we learned that Brazil is a democracy and people choose a president, governors, and mayors. I cannot vote yet because I am not old enough, but I know voting is important. My parents always tell me who they will vote for and why, and I ask questions so I can understand. That makes me feel like I am part of it even if I do not go to the voting place.
I also try to help in other ways. I joined the student council and we decide small things for our school like what games to have at recess and how to make our classrooms cleaner. I went with my family to a neighborhood meeting where we talked to the mayor’s assistant about fixing a broken playground. We also helped pick up trash near the river one Saturday.
I hope Brazil gets better schools and safer streets so everyone can be happy. I want to learn more about how the government works so when I am old enough I can vote and help choose good leaders. For now I will keep asking questions, helping at school, and talking with my family about what is fair and important.
