Cassandra at Camp

When Cassandra got home from summer camp, she could not wait to tell her brother all about it. On the long ride home from camp, she thought about all the fun things she had done. When she had first arrived, she was greeted by a group of friendly counselors who led her to her cabin. She met her three roommates, Kierra, Sonya, and Deb, and they all became friends quickly. The girls did everything together at camp, and even made matching friendship bracelets.

During the day at camp, Cassandra participated in a variety of activities. The day started with breakfast. She always sat with her roommates, and her favorite breakfast was the cinnamon pancakes. After breakfast, the camp members went to the outdoor picnic tables for crafts. Over the summer, Cassandra made a birdhouse for her grandmother, a woven bookmark for her mother, and some beaded jewelry for herself. After crafts, the campers participated in group sport activities, like kickball, soccer, or tag. The next activity was water sports, Cassandra's favorite. The camp had both a pool and a lake, and campers had many options at both. At the pool, they could play on the water slide, play volleyball, or swim laps. At the lake, they could swing from a rope swing or jump on the inflatable trampoline. Lunch after water sports was usually quick, and then the campers were given a little free time to go on a walk, read, hang out with their friends at the park, or take naps in their cabins.

Before dinner, the campers met back up to sing camp songs. After dinner, the campers met around the campfire and the camp counselors told stories. Sometimes, they set up a movie screen and made popcorn for movie night. On Fridays, a special guest came to put on funny puppet shows, which Cassandra and her friends really enjoyed. Before leaving camp, Cassandra and her friends exchanged phone numbers and planned a slumber party. As Cassandra thought of all the fun she had at summer camp, she realized her favorite part had nothing to do with the variety of activities. Her favorite part of camp was starting new friendships that would last long after camp ended.
