After mitosis (and cytokinesis), the daughter cells enter the G1 phase of interphase. They are typically diploid somatic cells with the same chromosome number and (barring mutation) the same genetic content as the parent cell. Some daughter cells may instead exit the cycle into G0 if they become quiescent or terminally differentiated.
