Ken was really excited about the weekend. His best friend, Finn and he were going camping for the first time. Ken and Finn were eager to try camping since they read about it in a sports magazine. The boys thought of every way possible to convince their parents to let them go camping in the woods; their parents had concerns about the adventure and dismissed the boys' plan. Ken and Finn begged for a month before their parents finally agreed under the condition they would set up their tents in Finn's backyard.
Ken arrived home from school on camping day and saw his mother and Bill, his younger brother, on the front porch. Bill had a backpack, and shrewdly, Ken realized his younger brother had convinced their parents to let him join the boys on their adventure. Even though Bill was only a year younger than Ken, he thought of Bill as his baby brother and believed his friends would tease him for spending time with Bill. Immediately, Ken was angry and defiant. He refused to take Bill with him. After a few minutes, he calmed down because he knew if he continued to argue, his parents would simply cancel the already fragile plan for his camping adventure. He told his mom that he did not want Bill to accompany him, but in the end, he had to accept her decision because he knew his plans were still at a fragile stage. He was afraid if he argued further, his parents would simply cancel the plan.
Bill and Ken arrived at Finn's house; Ken and Finn started setting up camp in Finn's backyard. Finn's dad and Bill offered to help but the boys refused because they were confident they could do everything on their own. Ken and Finn fumbled with the tent for almost an hour and still could not set it up. Finally, they surrendered and asked Bill for help. Within a short time, all three of the boys set up their tent and Ken appreciated that Bill was there. As night fell and the boys talked, they admitted that having a third person was not a bad thing. Their camping adventure would be more fun with all three of them.
