Rivers overflowed, there were huge landslides, and many houses were swept away by water and mud. In Honduras, thousands of people died or went missing and more than a million were left homeless; crops and roads also suffered enormous damage. Rural communities were the most affected.
Help arrived from other countries, but recovery was slow. We learned the importance of early warnings, evacuation plans, and protecting forests to prevent landslides. Today, many communities still remember the victims and work on preparedness for future storms.
