3 1/2 = 3.5

4 3/4 = 4.75

7 1/5 = 7.2

One way to think of decimals is to relate them to expressions of money.

Half a dollar = $.50
1/2 = .5

A quarter = $.25
1/4 = .25

Three quarters = $.75
3/4 = .75
