The respiratory system helps your body breathe in oxygen and breathe out carbon dioxide. Air goes in through the nose or mouth, passes the trachea and bronchi, and fills the lungs. The diaphragm is a muscle that moves down and up to pull air into the lungs and push it out. Oxygen from the lungs goes into your blood so your body can use it to make energy.
