The respiratory system helps us breathe and gives our body the oxygen it needs. Air comes in through the nose or mouth, goes down the trachea, and enters the lungs. Inside the lungs tiny tubes called bronchi and tiny air sacs called alveoli pass oxygen into the blood and take away carbon dioxide. The diaphragm and chest muscles push air in and out so we can keep breathing.
