The respiratory system brings oxygen into your body and gets rid of carbon dioxide that your cells don’t need. Air enters through the nose or mouth, travels down the trachea, and goes into the lungs through the bronchi. Tiny air sacs called alveoli in the lungs pass oxygen into the blood and remove carbon dioxide. The diaphragm, a muscle under the lungs, helps pull air in and push air out so breathing keeps happening.
