Mass production transformed American industry by standardizing parts and using assembly-line techniques so factories could make far larger quantities at lower cost, which lowered prices and expanded consumer markets. For example, Henry Ford’s 1913 moving assembly line cut Model T assembly time from roughly 12 hours to about 90 minutes and allowed Ford to produce millions of cars (about 15 million by 1927), making automobiles affordable to many Americans.
