A government system is the set of institutions, laws, and practices through which a society organizes authority, makes collective decisions, enforces rules, and defines citizens’ rights and responsibilities; it determines how power is obtained, shared, and limited, shaping everyday life and public order. The system I am examining—dictatorship—is a form of government in which political power is concentrated in the hands of a single ruler or a small ruling clique who exercise near-total control without meaningful checks and balances, independent courts, or free, competitive elections. Dictatorships are characterized by top-down decision-making, restrictions on political freedoms and the press, use of police or military force to suppress dissent, and reliance on propaganda or patronage to maintain authority, making them distinct from democratic or pluralistic systems.
