Superior use of descriptive and/or sensory details, figurative language, poetic devices, etc. (35 pts)
Frequent Rhyme throughout poem with a recognizable rhyme scheme. (35 pts)
Creates a distinct mood/tone for the reader. (20 pts)
Has a clear theme or story. (10 pts)
LENGTH: 150-250 Words. Poems below the minimum length will not receive a passing grade. Your poem can be longer than 250 words if you wish. make it on a 7th grade level.

I climbed the attic stairs where sunlight mixed with dust,
The floorboards sighed like sleeping giants stained with rust.

A cardboard crate sat waiting, its tape curled like a gate,
I lifted the lid and found a folded letter meant for fate.

A wooden toy sat smiling, chipped paint holding tiny joy,
Its little wheels remembered afternoons and racing, oh boy.

The letter smelled of lavender, the words were warm and better,
They told of Sunday picnics, of songs and weather we’d gather.

A sun-faded photograph blinked up, two faces caught in light,
The picture tasted like a memory that glowed away the night.

My fingertips traced edges rough as river stones and smiles,
Dust tickled my nose and tasted like long lazy miles.

Outside the maples shivered, their leaves sang soft a song,
I hummed along and felt that old laughter make me strong.

The attic smelled of pine and paper; a cool and gentle breeze,
I hugged the toy and promised to keep memories like these.

The letter said “remember,” and my quiet heart took start,
I carried the crate down the stairs and carried home its heart.
