The sentences, "Lee gave the ball to Lynne" and "Lynne received the ball from Lee," have the same:
surface structure.
syntax.
surface and deep structures.
deep structure.
Does this sentence have both surface and deep structure? From reading my text book, I believe it does, but Im a little confused.

I don't know the technical term, but the first sentence has a verb in the active mode; the second one is passive.

This sounds more like English than psychology. The first verb is active and the second is passive. However, English is not my area of expertise.
