In what ways might our government system be different if the Founders had not incorporated the concept of checks and balances and separation of powers into the U.S.

Without separation of powers and checks and balances, one branch or faction could have consolidated control over lawmaking, enforcement, and adjudication, making government far more susceptible to arbitrary or authoritarian rule. That concentration of power would likely weaken protections for individual rights, reduce accountability and oversight, and produce larger, less predictable swings in policy and corruption.
