Registration is the precise alignment of two or more printing plates, screens, or blocks so that colors and image elements line up correctly on the final print, often aided by registration marks. A press is the machine that applies ink to a substrate (paper, board, fabric, etc.) using mechanical pressure and includes types such as offset, letterpress, flexographic, and screen presses. A keyblock is the plate or block that carries the primary linework and tonal detail (usually printed in black) in multi-color printing; it defines the image’s edges and is used to align the other color layers.
