I think the first cell formed by a long process of chemistry in the early oceans. Tiny chemicals joined together to make bigger molecules like proteins and RNA. These molecules got wrapped in a simple membrane and made a proto-cell. Energy from the sun or from hot vents on the ocean floor helped the reactions happen. Over a long time, these proto-cells learned to copy themselves and use energy, becoming real cells. This seems like a natural and gradual way life could begin.
