My whole life changed the day teleportation was invented and I signed up to be the first human trial, because I wanted to be brave and famous and because my mom said it was probably safe, even though I was nervous. The scientists were nice and said they tested it on stuff and it worked and there were cameras and lights and a lot of beeping, and everyone told me to step into the booth and that I would be on the other side in a second. I took a deep breath and thought about what I would say to my friends and how cool it would be to tell them I did it, and then the machine made a humming noise and the world blinked, and suddenly I was somewhere that looked like a big empty field with tall grass and a tree, and I smiled and whispered, "They'll never find me here." It felt quiet and a little scary and kind of awesome, and I realized being first was a big deal.
