- Some voters support a third party because they do not agree with the two big parties (Democrats and Republicans) and want choices that match their own ideas. Other voters pick a third party to bring attention to a specific issue they care about, like healthcare, the environment, or government reform.

Describe two ways in which a strong third party would make the American political system more democratic. Use details and examples from 2024. (Three sentences)
- A strong third party would give voters more real choices and make sure more ideas are heard; for example, in 2024 independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Green Party candidate Cornel West raised issues that some people felt the two big parties were not talking about.
- A strong third party would also push the big parties to listen and change their plans to win back voters, so citizens’ voices would have more power in shaping policies like healthcare, student loans, or foreign policy.
- Finally, if people who felt left out see a party that represents them, they are more likely to vote, which makes elections more representative and democratic.
