From the Caves
by Thea Prieto
I can’t stay here, says Mark. The roots will burn, thedrinking water needs to be jarred, then the fire —
I’ll check the roots, says Sky, and he trots up thepassage before Mark can stop him. Above, in the redfirelight of the upper cave, the heat has grown towringing, and Sky notices at once that Teller hasmoved. He has dragged himself closer to the fire, hisribs pumping fast from the effort. The hot touch of hisskin stings Sky’s fingertips, but he still tugs Teller awayfrom the fire, to where the warmth is drawn upward intothe windy main passageway already lit gray with earlymorning.
You’re going to hurt yourself, Sky says to Teller.
Teller, heat-knocked and staring, does not answer.
Try to rest, says Sky.

Sky’s
The passage is narrated from a perspective focused on Sky’s actions and observations (e.g., “Sky notices,” “Sky’s fingertips,” “Sky says”), so it's primarily told from Sky’s point of view.
