A Few Cans of Tuna

On her way to work each day, Sarah passed by an alley full of cats. She always brought some cans of tuna to give to the cats. She would open the cans and they would come running.


One day, as usual, Sarah arrived in the alley with the tuna. But this time there was only one cat in the alley. The cat did not run toward her. Instead, he motioned with his head, as if to say, “Come with me.”


Sarah followed the cat into the alley. The cat motioned for Sarah to open a door. The door led to a dark storeroom.


Inside the dark room, Sarah saw hundreds of cats. Only their bright eyes gave light. “You are our friend,” a voice said.


Finally, a large black cat came close to her. “I am the leader of the cats.”


The leader made a hissing noise and all the cats came toward her. Sarah was scared.


“You are the only one who ever cared for us,” the cat said.


“Please,” said another cat. “Sit down in the comfortable chair.”


Sarah sat down. Suddenly the cats climbed up on the chair and snuggled with Sarah. “We love you!” they said.


Sarah was amazed. She had just made hundreds of new friends! And it was all because of a few cans of tuna.
