She removes slip of paper fromapron pocket, takes cloth-covered button frombasket, removes cloth, places paper in buttonframework, recovers button with material, andsews. ELLA, carrying bundle of clothing, entersleft, walks to table, deposits clothing.

): Goodness, Ella, youfrightened me.
ELLA: Sorry, Mistress Rebecca.
