How to tell in general:
- A chemical formula contains carbon if it includes the symbol C (for example CO2, CH4, C6H12O6).
- In ball-and-stick models carbon atoms are usually shown as black or gray balls; oxygen is red, hydrogen white, nitrogen blue, etc. So look for a black/gray ball or the letter C in the formula.
