3x+4y=14 (1)
x+y=3 (2)
Multiply (2) by -3 to get the x's to cancel.
3x+4y=14 (1)
-3x-3y=-9 (3)
Add (1) and (3) together.
y=5
Replace y=5 in either original equation (1) or (2) to solve for x.
