One thing we acted out was an argument about who should do the chores.

I noticed two concrete nonverbal ways my sisters showed their feelings:

- My older sister crossed her arms tightly and stood with her chin up. That body language told me she was defensive and not open to talking—she was protecting her position and wanted to seem strong.
- My younger sister rolled her eyes, sighed loudly, and looked away while talking. Those actions told me she felt annoyed and dismissed the other person’s words.

Explained in first person:
When we acted out the chore argument, I felt the tension before any words were said. I saw my older sister cross her arms and hold her head high, so I understood she was shutting down and didn’t want to be persuaded. I saw my younger sister roll her eyes and look away, which made me think she was impatient and didn’t respect what was being said.
