Freshwater does not hold salt. Sinks, water bottles, and water fountains have freshwater. We need freshwater to stay alive. Freshwater can be found in ponds, lakes, rivers, and streams.

Most freshwater is actually found as ice! It is in glaciers and icebergs. A glacier is a sheet of moving ice. An iceberg is a huge lump of ice that has broken off a glacier and is surrounded by water.

Liquid Water and Solid Water
When water is frozen, it is solid ice. We can find solid water in the Arctic regions of the world. The glaciers and icebergs in these regions contain over 70 percent of the world’s freshwater supply!

The Antarctic ice cap covers Antarctica. It is the largest ice mass on Earth. It is 5.4 million square miles! It holds about 60 percent of the world’s freshwater.
