Batter A will likely hit the ball farther because starting the swing from the shoulder gives a longer swing arc and more time to accelerate the bat, producing higher bat speed (and thus more kinetic energy) at impact; Batter B’s bat directly behind the ball has a much shorter acceleration path and so generally yields a lower ball velocity and shorter travel distance.
