- Virginia: the colony around the Chesapeake Bay (Jamestown), south of Maryland and north of North Carolina.
- South Carolina: on the Atlantic coast directly south of North Carolina (above Georgia).
- Southern colonies (the group): Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia (the region along the southern Atlantic coast).
