A Garden for Everyone
Alecia Strohl
Gardening is a hobby many people enjoy because it produces admirable and noticeable results. The beautiful colors of flowers, patterns found in leaves, and unique shapes of plants are a few reasons gardeners enjoy the hobby so much. Growing a garden requires healthy conditions for plants to thrive; taking care of one involves quite a bit of time and effort. Once the seeds are planted, gardeners must ensure weeds, bugs, bad weather, and other elements do not harm the growing plants. Since outdoor space is required, not everyone is able to grow a traditional garden. For instance, some people live in apartments, or big buildings divided into many homes, and do not have their own yards. Without space and their own ground to dig into, apartment dwellers who wish to plant gardens have to find other ways to participate in this hobby. Some people may have outdoor space, but other elements, such as weather or climate, may prevent successful gardening. People who live in arid, hot places, like New Mexico, face problems such as hardened, dry soil and scorching daytime temperatures. For those living in colder climates, like parts of Alaska, gardening may be made difficult by year-round snow and freezing temperatures.
For people who wish to have gardens but are unable due to climate, limited outdoor space, or lack of time, a small, indoor garden, known as a “terrarium”, may be a satisfying choice. A terrariums is made by adding rocks, soil, and small plants to a clear bowl or wide vase. Terrariums do not require as much time and effort as traditional outdoor gardens, they can be moved from one location to another, and since they are grown indoors, climate can be controlled. Once the materials are gathered, they can be assembled in as little as twenty minutes. Terrariums can be made in a variety of ways; a simple internet search provides multiple options with detailed directions. These indoor gardens make gardening easy and fun for beginning and experienced gardeners, no matter where they live!

It best sums up the passage’s main idea — that gardening can be enjoyed by everyone, even if people use different methods (like terrariums) because of space or climate limitations.
