(1/2) ÷ (1/4) = 2

Steps on the number line:
- The interval from 0 to 1 is divided into 4 equal parts, so the tick marks are at 0, 1/4, 1/2, 3/4, 1.
- Locate 1/2 on the line (it is at the second tick, or two fourths).
- Ask “how many 1/4 pieces fit into 1/2?” Count the 1/4 segments from 0 to 1/2: there are 2.
- Therefore 1/2 divided by 1/4 = 2.

(Algebraically: (1/2) ÷ (1/4) = (1/2)·(4/1) = 2.)
