Right now, some leaders in Congress and the President are trying to make the courts weaker, and that is a big problem for our country. The courts are supposed to be a fair place where laws are checked to make sure they follow the Constitution. If leaders try to limit judges’ powers, ignore court decisions, or attack the courts’ independence, then one branch can get too much power. When one branch controls too much, the system of checks and balances stops working and the rule of law is in danger, which can hurt people’s rights and make government less fair. Protecting strong, independent courts helps keep the Constitution working the way it was meant to.
