1) Respond to their environment — Shrimp detect light intensity and change behavior (positive or negative phototaxis), so under bright light they may hide, reduce movement, or seek shade, while in low light they become more active or forage. This immediate behavioral change explains differences you observed across light levels.

2) Maintain homeostasis — To keep internal conditions stable, shrimp adjust physiology (e.g., pigment/chromatophore distribution, eye sensitivity, metabolic rate, or stress-hormone release) in response to light.
