Why do Oxygenated fuels contain less energy than hydrocarbons?

Answers

Answered by Dr Russ
A simplistic answer is to say that energy is obtained by forming C-O and H-O bonds. Thus if the molecule already contains C-O and O-H bonds then these are not available to form C-O and H-O bonds and produce energy.
