Weathering is when wind, rain, waves, and salt break rock into smaller pieces or make cracks bigger. Erosion is when those broken pieces are carried away by water and wind. On a rocky coast, waves widen cracks into sea caves and then break through to make a sea arch. When the arch’s top falls from more weathering and erosion, the leftover pillar of rock becomes a sea stack.
