Villager 1: (bows head) Of course, Elder. I’ll take the smaller crystals to the stone shrine beneath the old pine — that place has the warding runes. I’ll wrap each in cloth and tie them with iron wire so they can’t slip free. I’ll also set a lock and leave a lantern burning through the night.

Villager 2: (fidgets, voice low) Do not open the chest — I heard the stories. I’ll stay by it until Villager 4 arrives and we can ask them to read whatever markings it has. If anyone comes near, I’ll sound the bell and wake the whole village. We’ll mark it clearly and keep everyone away.
