On the December solstice, the North Pole experiences 24 hours of darkness because it's tilted away from the Sun. In contrast, the South Pole has 24 hours of daylight since it's tilted towards the Sun. This happens because of the tilt of the Earth on its axis, which causes different areas to receive varying amounts of sunlight throughout the year. So, while one pole is in shadow, the other gets to enjoy the constant sunshine!
